Saraswati Residence

Type:

Homeless shelter/ Learning facility

Location:

Berlin, Germany

Year:

2018 - 2019

With Berlin's growing homeless community, the Saraswati residence will provide shelter, as well as, granting individuals the opportunity to learn new skills and gain the experience needed to reintroduce them back into society. Study and work will be monitored over a set period of time and accommodation will be provided accordingly.

The design aim is to give a sense of function, community and safety. By incorporating vegetation throughout lightwells in the building, it gives an overall sense of enclosure and privacy from the outer context, without sacrificing the need to be close to nature. Combining public and private areas gives the opportunity for individuals to connect with the wider community, providing insight of how societies work harmoniously and where they will fit in.
